In the beginning of Chapter 1, Nick lives on the East Egg and visits his cousin Daisy on West Egg the more "fashionable" egg. He gets a glimpse of how her life is, and her unfaithful husband Tom. They have brunch or lunch, not sure. But all of them including the professional golf player Jordan. Nick notices that all that glitters isn't gold once he visits his cousin. When Nick heads back to his Egg he sees a shadow of Gatsby which makes him more interested in the mysterious man.
