  1. I think its important for it to be remembered because they have a lot of important traditions that can remind a person that can stay connected with their belifes .

  2. It is a good thing because the Native American culture is rare nowadays and it's hard to find someone who follows the culture now, ever since Europeans step foot to America.

  3. The value of preserving Native American Heritage is the culture, language and history of our past. Such as how the language of the native americans, that are slowly disappearing in reservations such as the Navajo.

  4. Preserving Native American heritage is important because Native American heritage is so involved in our history as Americans and there heritage is there culture and shouldn't be forgotten. There heritage is who they are. Its in there language, there food, and there everyday lives.

  5. The value of keeping Native American culture is huge. They Native Americans have almost no land, very little opportunity and they are being forgotten in history. They have to keep their culture in tact because it is who they are and what they have left. They don't want their kids to lost the culture, because then they lose who they are and that is scary for the Native Americans.

  6. It is fading extremely fast. 3 decades ago a large percentage spoke their native language but just a decade later only a tenth or so of that percentage spoke navajo. For many their culture and identity as navajo is all they have. But it is fading so quickly due to eastern influence that very soon he culture and beliefs and traditions will be gone. All that will be left are people living in a remote slum in Nevada with no knowledge of who they are and what they had once been.

  7. The value of preserving Native American Heritage because as time goes by their culture is slowly disappearing and how not that many people know how to speak the language. Like the link about that 17 year old teenager and how not many kids know the culture and language of their ancestors.

  8. Their culture is slowly disappearing so its important that we pay attention and this is important because their tradition must be remembered and past on to the next generations so they can know about their heritage,culture,ancestors,etc...

  9. i agree with tyshon,i think their heritage is disapearing and something should be done or else they cant follow back to their ancestry heritage

  10. The Native American Heritage is sad because they hardly have no land and their culture is disappearing slowly. The Generation they live in is sad because they hardly have water like they have to travel to go get water and have to go find food and they can hardly maintain and support their family because they have no money.

  12. It is important to value the Native American heritage because its slowly fading away, and only so little of it exists now, in reservations. Its always good to value it while it is still alive.

  13. IT IS SAD BECAUSE BACK THEN THEY BARELY HAD ANYTHING TO PROVIDE FOR THEIR FAMILIES AND THATS VERY INSPIRING ONLY BECAUSE SOME OF THEM SACRIFICE THEMSELVES JUST TO HELP THE PEOPLE NEED

  14. Thinking about how the Native American heritage and the Navajo language is fading away is devastating because the traditions, beliefs, customs, culture, language, etc, won't be passed on. I agree with Maxwell and Tyshon in the sense that something has to be done to preserve the Navajo language and the Native American heritage in general. These cultures are so important for this nation. They were the first Americans, and for their customs to just go extinct, can't happen.

  15. I think that the value of preserving Native American Heritage is the language, traditions, and also their history. Thinking back to the show "30 days" the Navajo language is starting to vanish away and also the Native American traditions.

  16. I believe that the value of preserving the Native American Heritage is the respect that it shows to the Navajo elders because they were born and raised into that heritage. I also think that preserving the Native American heritage is important because the traditions they have can be taught to the future Navajo generations if the heritage is preserved.

  17. I think that preserving the Native American Heritage, is something that is really important because it started to fade. If their customs start to fade no one will remember how the first Americans to ever live here were like, how they lived, and what traditions they followed. I agree with Wendy, Maxwell and Tyshon, but I think my thoughts are a bit more similar to what Stephanie says. I think the most important part is to preserve the customs so the newer generations will be able to learn and understand the lives of a Navajo Native Americans.

  18. The value of preserving the Native American Heritage is the respect that is being shown to the Navajo people because they were raised into that specific heritage. It's also important because the traditions being held can later on be taught to the future generations if its preserved.

  19. I agree with Wendy because the Native American culture is disappearing all too quickly. In 30 Days, one teacher said how quickly the percentage of students who knew the Navajo language dropped. The Native American people are all upset with the fact that their culture is decreasing faster and faster with each passing day, so it is important to them to preserve as much of it as they can.

  20. I think preserving Native American Heritage is important because its never good for a heritage to disappear. In the show 30 days they talk about how the heritage is slowly disappearing and how its devistating for something like that to happen. so its important to preserve Native American Heritage.

  21. i think preserving the Native American heritage is important because is just like when animals go extint, it affects others around them. Even though no one notices now it will affect them if it does happen.

  22. i think it is important to preserve native american heritage because they were here before any of us were they are the only people in america who are not immigrants and i dont think we should let them fade away into a story about some tribes that used to live in different parts of modern day america. They are part of our history

  23. I think it is important to preserve the Native American heritage because there culture, tradition is being lost. The Navjo tribe the the upcoming stage of kids dont know what it means to be a native they dont value it as much. Also there language is being lost its important to preserve it because then we know that they are a very unique culture were they can be remembered by.

  25. I think it is most important to the older generation of native american's to preserve their culture because they are the ones that would like the younger generation to follow their footsteps. In the video the girl explained how not alot of teens are really keeping traditions and how they are influenced alot by drugs and alcohol. It's becoming more difficult to preserve their culture because not alot of the present generation practices their culture and what it truly means to be a native american.

  26. When you preserve a heritage you preserve so much more than many people think of. There are many values to preserving the Native American heritage. One of the many values is that you preserve a language. If a heritage goes extinct then so does the language that goes with it. Heritage is something that is passed down from generation to generation. You cannot pass something down to the next generation if you aren’t taught it to begin with. Another thing that is valuable about preserving Native American heritage is that you can preserve a whole culture; if you stop passing things down about a certain group of people then the group of people will soon be extinct. There is only a limited amount of Native Americans and if that small amount of people stops passing down their culture and traditions then there will soon be no Native Americans at all.

  27. The value of preserving the Native American heritage is just like any heritage such as Spanish, English, African American or just African. Every culture and/or race wants to/or hopes to pass the traditions of their culture to their kids. But one important reason as to why it is so important is that they are native to the land and know it very well. That have build their life, traditions, culture and future in the land, it doesn't seem fair that they have to go thru so much to keep their traditions alive. It seems as though it is harder for them to keep it up and pass it on to the kids, than other cultures because if the lack of opportunities that are being provided for them in the reservations when it shouldn't be like that. In the end this really is their land and the least America can do is give them what they need as a human right! If my family can keep their culture and traditions then why can't they?

  28. I cant really tell what this image is, but from the comments above I can tell that these are Native Americans practicing their traditions. I think this is important that even though in numbers their population are decresing,. some of the people still practice their original traditions.

  29. This resembles the Native American tradition or heritage because it's could be showing her doing something that may seem foolish but has a good reason for example she's hanging upside down maybe so when she stands up and she feels so much better she can respect life. Since that heritage is disappearing every little thing you can do to pay your respects counts maybe this is one thing

  30. Preserving the Native American Heritage has a lot of values; Firstly because preserving the Native American heritage is most Native Americans, "American Dream" as explained in the 30 days episode. Secondly it'll allow the passing down of great unique, beliefs, cultures, and traditions from generation to generations. Most importantly it will ensure that the forefathers and roots of Native American are never forgotten.

  34. The value of preserving the Native American heritage is just like preserving any other culture or heritage because its good to maintain something in its original state , so it can be passed on to the future generations, and things like the language can be passed on. Its also good because the natives know the land , and it shouldn't be hard for them to preserve their culture but it is because everyone forget about them because of its poor conditions.

  35. Its important to preserve the native American heritage and any other heritage or culture is because it helps build a strong foundation for you and your family. its also always remembering where you came from and having it fresh in memory to help guidance where you are going.

  36. It is important to preserve the Native American heritage and any other heritage or culture because it can mean a lot to the older people in your family or the ones who sacrificed to build a strong foundation within your family. its important to know were you from and the family want to raise there children with Native American values such as language, ways of living etc.

  37. it is importan to preserve our heritage because it maybe our family way of live and they may feel bad that we have forget our culture .

  38. I agree with Christy because it's important to preserve the Native American culture because their culture is disappearing day by day. A lot of teens don't keep up with traditions and many teens are doing drugs. Theres not much of a culture if no one celebrates it.

  39. The value of preserving Native American Heritage is very important. The culture is slowly dying due to the American way of life being so predominant. In some ways the government and society has forgot about Native Americans. Life on a Native American reservation looks so hard. People are struggling to meet the bare necessities of living. Some fall into deep depressions because of this and turn to alcohol. So in the midst of this their way of life is slowly dying and this why trying to preserve the heritage is very important.

    1. preserving the native American heritage doesn't mean you have to stay on the rez forever. The heritage is in your daily lives and those traditions can be practiced anywhere which means you are preserving the native American dream.

  40. Based on this except from the book The absolute True Diary of a Part Time Indian, any one can have hope but if a person doesn't have have the support, opportunities and is surrounded by negativity the hope won't lead nowhere. Mr.P is trying to make Junior aware of what he is surrounded with in the Rez. Things like lack of opportunities which leads the Native of Americans to leave the Rez. Bad influence like alcohol and drugs which leads the Native to addiction. Mr.P is trying to motivate Junior to get out of the Rez and surround himself with hopeful people, that way he doesn't become a drunk. When Mr.P says, " you kept your hope. And now, you have to take your hope and go somewhere where other people have hope."(pg.43) Mr.P is implying that Junior needs to leave the Rez and surround himself with people outside of the Rez, because they have what the people of the Rez don't have and have lost, hope and opportunities. Mr.P believes that Junior has to get out in hopes of becoming something. In the Rez there isn't a lot of good opportunities which, doesn't let the Native Americans have the chance to turn their hopes and dreams into reality. In Letter to Martin Van Buren President of the United States Emerson alleges his discontentment with the unfair treatment the Government has towards Native of Americans. Emerson affirms that it puts the Native of Americans in a hopeless place. Emerson says, "on the broaching of this question, a general expression of despondency, of disbelieve that any good will accrue from a remonstrance on a act of fraud and robbery, appeared in those men to whom we naturally turn for aid and counsel." This contributes to the idea of the choices Mr.P is trying to make Junior acknowledge, either to leave the Rez and turn his hopes and dreams into reality, or to stay in the Rez and slowly lose the hope and become a addict like the rest of them.

  43. I think this is important because it relates to the struggles that Native Americans go through on a daily basis living in the reservation. This depiction show the increase poverty in the daily living of the Natives.
