  1. One of the most important symbols in the book The "Great Gastby" was towards chapter 6, the heat and cold of the actual temp. The temp. of the book such like the heat to me meant the tangle of emotions, frustration and the hatred that such and auch people had like Daisy and Gatsby's so to speak illegal love and Tom's hate for Gatsby. As well as for the cold which was the loosing of all that tangle that happened to be present and so forth the weather palys a big part in the book itself not to mention what happens next. The weather is a symbol that plays a big role in the leading of events to the death of Gatsby himself.

  2. The green light in the novel " The Great Gatsby " is one of the most important symbols. The green light represents Gatsby's optimism in eve finding Daisy. In the novel the green light is on Daisy's dock and made Gatsby feel full of faith that Daisy was somewhere out there. Also the green light gave Gatsby hope that him and Daisy would be reunited someday even though it seemed almost impossible. Daisy was Gatsby's dream and the green light represented his dream.

  3. The most important symbols in the book "The Great Gatsby are "Doctor Ecklbergs eyes" and the color "white". Doctor Eckleberg is an important symbolism in the book because it symbolizes that the characters actions have always been watched over by others, weather it be for good or for bad. The color white is an important symbol in the story because it represented purity. For example; in the beginning of the story, Daisy and Jordan were in white dresses, floating around in a white room before Tom had entered with his presence disturbing it all. Also that Myrtle's apartment is also the white,

  4. The two most important symbols in "The Great Gatsby" are "Doctor Ecklbergs eyes" and the color "white". The color white was used to show innocence and purity and sometimes emotions. Daisy wore a white dress when she was with Gatsby which means she was innocent, she wasnt married to Tom and didnt have a daughter. Also when nick saw her when he visited her she was in white and and so was jordan even the curtains were white. While doctor ecklbergs eyes symbolises god. He see's everything- all the beytrayal and evil tom and myrtle was doinng etc.

  5. Color was the most important form of symbolism in F. Scott Fitzgerald's 'The Great Gatsby'. Color was used to characterize the characters in the book, represent the value of things (color: gold), & importantly death. The most important colors in the book were yellow & white (& a little green). White represented the purity and goodness. Yellow represented corruption. Daisy was a prime example. Daisy was once viewed as innocent and later that changes. When Daisy was first brought up in the story she was wearing alot of white, ooh how ironic, her name is Daisy, she likes to wear white... Daisies are white! But you know whatelse? Daisies are yellow on the inside & in the book Daisy starts to lose her innocence. Her actions start to make us doubt that she is so innocent. In the story Daisy is shallow. Her cousin, Nick characterizes her as a careless person. Daisy promised to wait for Gatsby while he was fighting in World War 1 in 1917 then in 1919 she got married to a wealthy guy named Tom. In the story Daisy was all about money & the finer things. She chose Tom over Gatsby, then let Gatsby take the blame for killing Myrtle even though she was the one driving. Daisy is pure on the outside and rotten on the inside. Also in the story, white and yellow represent the two cars Gatsby used. In the beginning of the story, an ivory/cream lookin car and later a yellow car (the one that killed Myrtle)(the death car)

  6. In the book The Great Gatsby, there are many symbols used throughout the book, but the most important symbol is the Green light. The Green light in the book is at the end of the Buchanan’s dock, and is looked at by Gatsby. In the book, the green light is used as a sign of hope for Gatsby’s future. In the beginning of the book when Gatsby had not seen Daisy, Nick sees Gatsby stretching out his arm towards the dark water in a curious way, but Nick did not know that Gatsby was reaching out to the green light. Towards the middle of the book, when Daisy and Gatsby are now together and talking he realized that he now has his “future”, and that the significance of the green light had now vanished forever. The Green light was important in the book when Gatsby did not have Daisy, but once he had her, it lost it’s importance.

  7. The most important symbol in "The Great Gatsby" is the Green light.Throughout the novel, the "Green Light" has been mentioned many times. That specific light is what gave Gatsby hope to one day reach Daisy. At the end of chapter 9, Nick explains that "Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgiastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter-to-morrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther. . . . and one fine morning so we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past." meaning that the light was something people reach for, even if it gets farther and farther, people try harder and harder to reach it. And once they achieve it, it just reminds them of their past. Gatsby was reaches for the "light" and it reminded him of the past once he achieved it.

  8. In the novel The Great Gatsby , the most important symbol was "Doctor Ecklbergs eyes" and the color "white". Doctor Eckleberg is a important symbol in the book because it symbolize that the characters actions were always watched over by others people, whether it was good or bad. However Dr.Eckleberg is an important symbol because it is viewed as an unexplained image, as they stare down on the valley of ashes. However the color white is an important symbol because it represents purity and innocence because in the novel daisy had on a white dress and her house was white so mainly says that daisy was an innocent person who only cared about her self but showed her feeling toward people diffrently like she would get what she want by looks and the way she act.

  9. In the book "The Great Gatsby" the author F. Scott Fitzgerald shows many symbols that relate to the book. One symbole that is expressed in many ways is the green light. This light is a ray of hope for Gatsby that one day he will get what he want's. That dream of his is to accomplish his lost love Daisy who lives across from his house. The only thing seperating them is the water and Tom her husband. Even though at night when Gatsby can't see Daisy's home the green lights guides him it allows him to still find hope. The green light shows him that no matter how dark it may be he has to look in depth and achieve his future, his dream. Once Gatsby got his dream Daisy the importance the green light once held seems to have faded.

  10. In the book "The Great Gatsby" the author F.Scott Fitzgerald uses many symbols that have many meanings to it. One important symbol being used is the color white it stands for purity and innocence. Daisy wears white on the outside to seem pure and innocence as she makes herself seem because of what she is doing to Gatsby. Daisy isn't really being honest with Gatsby she act like she loves him but in reality she loves Tom. She didn't even have the courage to go to Gatsby's funeral.

  11. In the novel "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald there are many symbols throughout the novel, the most important symbol is the Green light. The Green light in the novel is at the end of the Buchanan’s dock, and is observed by Gatsby. In the novel, the green light is used as a sign of Gatsby’s ambition for a greater future and destiny than what James Gatz had. Gatsby wanted to become the stereo typical "American dream" with the golden girl Next door, the big house and the cars. In order for Gatsby to achieve that dream he had to have Daisy, in order to complete his ideal future. Towards the end of the novel Nick explains what the green light meant for Gatsby, "Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgiastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter-to-morrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther." This means that the green light was the goal every individual works for and wants to achieve, Gatsby believed in hard work and dedication. That if you want something really bad you will work hard to get it. The green light was the most important because without his ambition his story would have not happen, it was Gatsby's ambition that led him to his end.

  12. There are many symbols throughout the novel, "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The color 'white' and 'Dr. T.J. Eckleburg's Eyes' are portrayed in the novel. These are two of the most important symbols in "The Great Gatsby". The color 'white' communicates a sense of innocence and purity. In the novel, Daisy is referred 'white' many times, because she once used to be this innocent, pure, young lady. Gatsby kept this alive (in their past) through the love that they had for one another. But there comes Tom Buchanan, the killer of moods and positive atmospheres to destroy Daisy's purity and innocence. In the novel, Dr. T.J. Eckleburg's Eyes are displayed as the eyes of "God" staring down from the valley of ashes, watching over everything that's occurring in the lives of the characters.

  14. In the book "The Great Gatsby" there were many symbols used by the author F. Scott Fitzgerald, one of the most important symbols is the color white. The color white was a sense of purity and innocence and when Daisy wore the color white she wanted to make an impression that she was innocent. In reality she is confused and is messing with both Gatsby and Tom's emotions. Even though Daisy once loved Gatsby and still claims she loves him I believe that was the past and she has more feeling for Tom. When Daisy see's Gatsby after all those year she falls in love with a man who got his life together and now has money. I think that's what Daisy fell in love with because Gatsby treats her right she wants to live the luxury life and is trying to re live the past.

  15. There is a variety of symbols in The Great Gatsby such as the color white, purple, car wheel, eyes of Dr. TJ Eckleberg, or the library. The most important symbol throughout the novel is the green light on Daisy's porch, the color green symbolized hope. Gatsby wanted nothing more than just being with Daisy as he sees her as a "prize" and he would stare at that green light and reach towards it since he hoped to be with her soon. In Chapter 9, Nick quotes " Gatsby's wonder when he first picked out the green light at the end of Daisy's dock. He had come a long way to this blue lawn and his dream must have seemed so close that he could hardly fail to grasp it." And that Gatsby "believed in the green light." Gatsby's hope was lost when Tom and Daisy moved away with no address

  16. The most important symbols in 'The Great Gatsby' would be the use of the season's and heat.Season's in the book represent a whole life line, in everything happens The heat of the season represents the conflict ongoing in the book. Jordan at the hotel says, "New Life begins in the fall. " And towards the end, Gatsby died. Ending the conflict and every event he held and what they got used to. It also starts new lives for everyone involved, since nobody talks after Gatsby's death. The symbol of the end of the season's basically wraps up the book. Heat kept being broughtup before the huge fight between Tom and Jay. It was used to describe the tension that was going to be the biggest conflict of the book. Without the use of heat, you would never feel the importance of the conflict,. The passage describing the tension would be lacking.

  19. In the book "The Great Gatsby" there were many symbols used by the author F. Scott Fitzgerald, one of the most important symbols is the color white. The color white is a very important color, which symbolizes purity and innocence. Daisy is said to be wearing the color white often, as this shows that she is a pure and innocent person. I dissagree with this, because Dasiey is the root of the conflicts in the book. She onced loved Gatsby, but he was a poor man and when he went off to war she married Tom who was very wealthy and successful. When Daisy met Gatsby for the first time in about 7 ears, she realized that she still has feelings for him because he treats her right but is confused on who to choose. Before she can decide, Gatsby is killed because of Daisy and at his funeral she dosent even visit or send a flower. This shows that even thogh she dresses in the color white, her name fits her description because the flower is white in the outside and yellow in the inside.

  20. In the book The Great Gatsby by F scott Fitzgerald the most important symbol in this book is the color and the Dr. T.J. Eckleburg's Eyes because the color white represents purity and cleanliness while in a way they eyes can represent "God" and and how he see everything you do. You can say that the eyes and the color white are opposites in this book because the eyes see the valley of the ashes which is a farm where ashes grow like wheat into ridges and hills of hideous gardens. where ashes take form of houses and chimneys. That means that all houses are dirty along with the air nothing clean and while the color white is important because it shows all the clean things in the book. The most important symbol in the book the great gatsby is the heat the reason heat is the most important is because it is telling when a situation is heating up and when people in the book are getting agitated and aggressive in the book when daisy and gatsby finally tell tom that they are in love with each other he used the symbol heat to show how the situation is escalating

  21. in the book The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald the most important symbol was Dr. T.J. Eckleburg's eyes. The eyes meant no matter what you do and how slick you think you are somebody is always watching you and you never know it. Myrtle was sleeping around with tom and thought that Wilson wouldn't find out. After Wilson found out he locked Myrtle upstairs in the apartment above until he could get a car to leave town so she can stop with the affair. Then Wilson told Myrtle that " she could fool him but, she couldn't fool god ". This is why the eyes play a huge role in the story.

  22. I would have to agree with Dyandra on the fact that the most important symbol in the book is the use of temperature and the seasons. From the beggining of the book up until the very ending where Gatsby died there was an emphasis on the seasons. In the end of the book right before Gatsby's life came to an end there was a very important piece of dialogue between Gatsby and his pool cleaner. The man asked Gatsby if he should clean the pool because it will be fall soon and the leaves will start to go in the pool and Gatsby said no. He wanted one more day of summer and that one more day of summer ended up with him being dead.
